861 leaking transmission fluid

861 leaking transmission fluid out of the inspecion hole underneath the transmission. What is the cause and what is the potential for rehabilitation? Thanks guys.

Todd,

Most likely looking at a transmission input shaft seal that needs replaced. Will require a split to fix. Most recommend replacing your rear main seal at the same time while you have her split.

Is it more difficult on a 5 speed vs. a 4 speed? I have performed this on a lot of 4 speeds but never on a 5 speed.

861 should have lpto and thus 2 input shafts and 2 seals. Just replaced them on a 960 this winter. No harder than a 4 spd.

sure it's not hyd oil? I have been replacing a set of lines about every two months now. Old age and crud are taking their toll. just might want to double check before splitting.

It may be hydraulic oil. Can you replace the o"rings and fix that leak?
