861 Powermaster

I purchased an 861 Powermaster last year. It is a 6 year ago restoration. It really needs to be redone. My question is, Is this the right color (see pic)? It matches the decals, but I think it is a little too much on the orangy side. I redid a 601 Workmaster with them little spray bombs from Tractor Supply and it wasn't this color (see pic). I'm not saying that was the right color either but it did say Old Ford tractor restoration paint on it.

Yes that is the correct color for an 801 series tractor. The red does and is supposed to have a slight orange tint. You will not get the correct paint color from Tractor Supply.Ford/New Holland has the correct color.

yep, looks correct to me.

No telling what they painted it with.. paint should have held up more than 6ys.. even cheap alkyd enamil.

The Ford Red paint that TSC sells is for the 8N, NAA and 600/800 series. Ford switched to the orange/red paint with the introduction of the 601/801 series. Your 601 should have the orange/red paint to be correct.

Looks to be the correct color on the 861 Powermaster. The previous 860s were a little more red. Ford changed the color a little bit for the 1958 and subsequent model years at the behest (command) of Henry Ford II who wanted the tractor to show up a little better from a distance. Thus the change to a slightly orange shade of red. If you're going to re-do it, I would contact external_link in Wilkinson, IN. (1-765-785-2309) They have done the research and stock the correct colors for whatever model Ford you have. Others are correct in stating that New Holland has the correct colors but if you get the wrong clerk it's anybody's guess as to what you'll get. Some of them would'nt know an 860 from a model T. A lot of people are color blind to red and you see some weird shades but they will swear on a stack of bibles that it's right.

OK Sounds good. I am probably just going to touch it up a bit. The paint is somewhat worn off the front piece that wraps around underneath the grille, probably from bushhogging brier patches and such. It hasn't been babied too much since the restoration. Thanks for your help gentlemen.

Are you sure that's a 601 series? None of the X01 tractors had the Ford script logo embossed into the hood side panels. If it's a 601 it has the hood from a 600 or a NAA on it.

Yeah, it's a 641. This old girl didn't have a hood when I got her. The hood came off a 640. You are right again. The good part of it was, it was an excellent tractor mechanically. Thanks
