861 Steering (manual)

I recently bought an 861 (1962). runs great but it takes an acre to turn it around. Total rotation of the steering wheel is one and a quarter rotations. Nothing seems to be hitting and the wheels have plenty of room
to turn more. I would just as soon not start tearing into it before I know more than I do. I have no idea what was done to it before me. Steers freely as far as it will go then hits a dead stop in both directions. Appreciate any help. I
know you guys know everything.
