diesel flywheel. I have 1958 861 and think flywheel is wrong pto splines don't engauge clutch and transmission splines only go into there splines 1/4" new clutch311435 and plates are in clutch the wright way

Flywheels are not distinguished by gas and diesel but rather by type of transmission and serial number

replaced clutch rebuilt transmission five speed brake shaft goes through trans so should be 1958 only plowed with tractor for two years. this summer I wanted to bush hog is when I found pto didn't work looked through cover on bottom of bell housing ant pto splines are not in disc.

found problem wrong input shafts. that's what happens when it takes two years to find parts. but being a farmer I don't throw anything away. found old parts. now can I change flywheel?

Providing that you put the same (original) input shafts back after the transmission overhaul you should have to use the thinner flywheel (original) if your description of the transmission is accurate. No other flywheel will work.
