Parts book could be wrong, but it says the only one that uses the thicker plate ¼" is the 4000 Row Crop. In other words your 861 should use the 1/8" plate.

2nd look @ Messicks.com It appears as though all row crop models from 55-64 used the thick plate and all all-purpose models used the thin plate.

I almost sure it should be the thin one. The plate should match the age of the transmission. Ran in to this swapping a 961 engine into my 960 puller. Had to use the thick plate from the 960 to get it together. I think any thing x01 or 2/4000 will be thin

Someone on here said the plate stays with the tranny it came with.

agree with this. Age being important.
Generally, keeping the plate with the transmission it came with.
Got a couple examples here. Swapping a hundred series 5-speed into a SOS 871, had to use the thick plate from the early 5-speed.
My row crop 4cyl 4000 which has had the SOS swapped out for a newer 5-speed...uses the thin plate.

Another problem....having to keep the plate with the transmission....if the engine had the other plate originally, the hydraulic manifold will not work.
Be wary, most online vendors say for a piston pump...either the 310878 or the NCA933J will interchange and are the same...they aren't.
Both are for the piston pumps, but the 310878 is for the later tractors with the thin plate, the NCA933J earlier with the thick plate.

Are there #s on the manifolds my transmission has brake shaft in case ser# 33148 my problem is it has 1/4 plate thin flywheel and double clutch . My input shaft is not going in to pto disc so was going to change flywheel to thick one.but rubs on plate and I think release bearing holder must be changed
