870 for you Case Guys

Great Tractors. Powerful, rugged, solid, able to pound all day long. Worth every penny of what he is asking, unfortunately, that's not where the market is at. John Deere guys have their 4020's, we have our 870's.

I agree, that and the 830 CK COM would be the most loved case tractors. Dad bought one new had to be 1970, was a great tractor and ran on fumes, doubt you could get 3 gal/hour through it.

"doubt you could get 3 gal/hour through it"

The guys at Nebraska were able to, 4.835 gallons per hour @ "maximum available power", 3.201 gallons per hour @ 50% of "pull at maximum power". HP hours per gallon were between 10.33 and 12.93. (Test #917, October, 1965.)

My vote goes with Jon, my 830 CK is the true sweetheart around here. I love my 70 series stuff, but the ol 830 that came to the farm in '65 is the winner!

Nice 870.My vote is still the 30 series.Own a 730 ck diesel,it came to the farm new in 1966 with a new Jt 4-16,s plow and unable to get 3 gal a hr threw here.My 730 ck gas is a different story. Both non com.Love my 1030ck but for work done in our Sandy soils the 730 diesel wins hands down for fuel used and saved.

I would be the last one to criticize any model CASE, and one of the most beloved here is our 730 CK Diesel we've had for 46 years. HOWEVER!! Let's compare the 870 to the 830, 10 more HP, starts much better in the cold, 830's along w/ the 1030's had fragile blocks & heads,; don't even go there trying to argue w/ me,; cooling system better on the 870, 540/1,000 PTO, Nebraska TEST on HP hours / gal better on the 870. Spin on filters and dry air cleaner on the 870, larger fuel tank behind the seat, full hydrostatic power steering, power shift option, (btw the p/shift on our 870 has never been touched in the 40 years we've owned it.) Heavier crank & bearings on the 870.

Add better visibility, larger fuel tank, much easier to get on and off, better front axle, better brakes, We could both go on and on. I like my 830 CK, but the 870 is better all the way around!

Tell me about your REO. I have 2 of them. 1954 Gold Comet F22T, and a 69 11464DB with 256,000 miles. Very NICE running trucks!

Cone on you guys. I was hoping one of you would buy it so we could see pictures of it from time to time. It is a real nice looking tractor. I don't have room and I don't think it would handle my roll-over plows on the hills.

Ha, Ha.

The actual HP per hour isn't outstanding.
