88 clutch bearing

Replaced clutch throw-out bearing. Roars when clutch is depressed and in gear or not. When clutch is depressed, clutch shaft slows down and about to stop the roar will start and the clutch shaft picks up speed and gets worse. Thanks for your reply.

I think the late ones had an actual pilot bearing, earlier had a brass pilot bushing. If that bushing gets bad,it'll make a heck of a noise.

O. K. I take it this is an early 88. Randy is right. Post a serial number. We used to oil them to get a guy by! Send me an e-mail with phone number and I will explain it. J.

Your clutch is probably not adjusted right and is actually forcing the throw out bearing into the pressure plate fingers making the noise. Back the adjuster off a little and it should fix it. to check this with the tractor running in neutral hold the clutch petal down about 1to 1 1/2" from hitting the deck and see if the shaft stops and then push it all the way down and see if the shaft starts to turn and the noise starts

had something kind of similar. ( just remember it making one heck of a racket) Turned out it was the tube that throw out bearing slides on came loose from housing. Did you check that release fingers on pressure plate where all adjusted same distance from plate with clutch installed and tightened down? Sounds like your taking it apart again anyway, but with your symptoms it seems like something is causing unequal release of pressure plate from clutch disc.
