880 diesel starting.

Many things effect how these start. Let's start with the fuel it self how old is it? Filters how old are they? Does it have the original fuel pump on it still? How's the air filter pot any oil left is it old or is it packed with dirt dead mice etc? The fuel injection pump on these need to be open 1/4 to 1/2 throttle to start by design but all the above and more all play a factor in start ability. Duane o.

As posted below, that's the nature of the external spring PSB pump. Internal spring governor worked much better but cost more. For best starting always open the throttle about 1/3 on the PSB, applies to the American Bosch model 100 rotary pump too.
