I have a 1959 Oliver 880 I am trying to run a two way cylinder on the left side when I try to run it the cylinder will go up then down then it won’t move any ideas how to get it to run the cylinder.

Trying to understand here, it will do one cycle of extend and retract and then nothing? Post this down below on the Oliver forum.

Hello TH.., welcome to YT! Is the cylinder connected to something as in on an implement? I don’t know Oliver hydraulics I am only asking this because I am thinking that the system may be only supplying one way hydraulics. Then some how something resets in the implement after one stroke and then there is nothing acting on the cylinder to stroke it one way. What resets it so it will go through the 2 strokes again? Shutting the engine off?

It’s to run an aftermarket three point and even after shutting the tractor off the cylinder will not move.

I can't tell you why it will only cycle one time but, I can tell you that with the engine shut off, the hyd system will not work at all. Just the way the system is built. No, it won;t even lower with the engine not running.

You might have Oliver’s Hydra-Lectric system

Do a google search Oliver’s Hydra-Lectric to give you some ideas or at least confirm you have or don’t . Then the troubleshooting begins

Good luck

New to you tractor or it just started doing this? Try hooking hoses to the right side and see if it works. Couplers will go bad, try replacing them.

It works great on the right side of the tractor I hooked it to the left side now it will go up but not down and the left side has brand new couplers and connections.
