880 temperature gauge

The temperature gauge on the 880 gas has stopped working. Where do I begin or is it easier just to buy a new gauge?
 
That's a cluster gauge with a sending unit isn't it? I'm sure somebody can tell you how to test the sending unit with a multi meter or something, I can't, but I'd be looking at that before I replaced that cluster.
