8N Accessories?

I just got an 8N Dec 51, I think. There are a few things I am not too sure about which came with it.
Air Precleaner, Harco or Cyclone, Not sure what I have.
Seat, Pan seat but has 2 rubber bumpers in back and a different suspension than I am familiar with.
Battery cover, A sheet metal plate which slides on to sides hood. It is removeable and when removed allows access to battery.
Are these factory options or accessories purchased after delivery?

The air cleaner was a dealer accessory.

The Rest-O-Ride seat was from the 100 series and added by a PO.

I've never seen or heard of that battery cover, so I think it's a farmerized option to cover a missing OEM box cover.

Hi Bruce,
THAT is a great article you wrote. I read it completely and took notes. I will return to it often. I ordered all manuals and parts books, so next week I will be better informed about the 8N. Whoever made the battery cover did a good job, it has the reinforcing pressing in it to give strength. The seat appears to be in good shape so I will probably keep it. The air cleaner looks ok too so I will probably keep it. Great tip on pulling the starter and adding the nuts. I would have learned the hard way.

a 9n or 2n piece, OEM part # 9N10737. Most folks threw them away the first time they needed to do some battery maintenance.

Can you explain how this snaps or slides in place? Will this work on my 9N or has there been some support brackets removed?

My cover slides on from front to back. Very easy to install. If you can see on picture tab goes under the back part of the hood and the longer sides lay on the top. Hope the picture shows this.

Battery cover plate was indeed a ford item. Part number 9n-10737. It laid in the opening under the hood door. There was a piece in the middle that slide under the hood and two hooked pieces that
were on each side that hooked to the rail around the opening. Many were just removed. I have a couple in the barn. They will work on later 9n's with hinged hood doors. They will not work with
early snap in doors and aluminum hoods.

Like Bruce said, Air Pre-Cleaner is the CYCLONE 8N Model. Denny Carp makes and sells all new repop parts except for the housing itself. The Rest-O-Ride Seat was introduced as standard equipment on the 800 Model but will fit the N's too. You take your OEM pan seat off the install it on the R-O-R base. You can get some ROR parts like the rubber bumpers from a few places like Steiners. The battery cover splash guard is NOT an 8N part. It was made for the 2N so because of the hood designs, won't fit properly. It is an original Ford part but not made for the 8N. Manuals are your friends. Good morning, oldsarge and all: I also use a wood paint stirring stick as my fuel gauge, and I keep it in my 9N tool box. (It is a little longer than the tool box, so one end of the stick is always overlapping the back end of box. Makes it easy to find without looking. I can get the stick and check fuel level without leaving seat.)

A friend of mine was selling this one, at the time he explained what it was, and I had never seen one before. He also noted that over the many years of selling N series parts that this one was one of only three that he had come across. Yup, I bought it.
