8n advice

All have a new to me 8n, late model side
dizzy. Got it running and have a lot of
white smoke/steam and strong odor of coolant
on start. Has a miss as well. Pulled plugs
and pretty sure #3 Is the source given the
cleanliness of the plug compared to others.
Also have water in oil, but that could be
residual from where it was outside for a
long while before I got it...or...

Soliciting opinions on what it could
possibly be. I'm thinking at beat a blown
gasket and at worst cracked head. Any other
ideas are appreciated.

Finally back in an N after 3 years on a
3000d. Missed that him or little tractor
and finally got another for me and my boys
to tinker on.

My moneys on the head gasket And hopefully not a cracked head. In either case just pop her head off and have a looksee.

If I remember correctly a few of the studs that hold the head down sit in the water jacket of the engine block. Remember taking mine out cleaning them up and putting sealant around them before putting them back in. There’s also good write up somewhere about the proper sequence of tightening down each of the stud nuts on the head and working yourself up to the proper torque.

As previously posted, it is likely a failed head gasket but it wouldn't hurt to do a compression test to establish a baseline.

After pulling it down tonight I found 2 things (so far). First, the head bolts were not torqued properly, I used a 1/2" drive ratchet to pull it down with and all I really needed was a 3/8. Every single head bolt was barely tight. I'm assuming this is the reason that there is coolant/water in the oil...every cylinder was getting seepage around the gasket. I've got a FelPro 7277B on order and will pickup tomorrow. Second, I found the #3 exhaust valve broken and laying in pieces (pic attached). Hoping that this was just a fluke due to some ID10T wrenching on this tractor with no clue what he was doing...but thinking back to what the guy told me that I got it from, he had to put a cam gear and a new front cover on it before I got it. Thinking this valve got stuck and his attempt to crank it resulted in breaking the valve, gear and cover. I'll keep everyone posted on the journey to resurrect this old gal.
