8N angle mount dist timing

are there any tricks to this or just standard timing? thanks

No special tricks. Set to 4 degrees BTDC at 450 RPM or less.

You can use a timing light or set statically.

I rarely use a timing light anymore as the marks are difficult to see with a 12V timing light unless you power the light from a 12V battery.

Any suggestions for setting the timing at 4 degrees when there are no marks on your flywheel? Anyone ever try setting initial timing on an N Ford b sing a vacuum gauge? Kentucky windage? Chicken bones? Anyone have any words of wisdom for this sitch?

There was a thread on this late last week. Also, I had an extensive thread about January 20th. Search for my handle and you should find what are looking for. Just remember, the dizzy turns CCW and your points need to be just opening for this timing bit to work. After you get it running, time by ear to the highest idle and best sound of the motor.

here are at least a half dozen ways to find TDC-compression stroke. Once you do that and place mark on flywheel, then since there are 134 teeth on there, you have 2.69 degrees per, so just a tad under two teeth ought to be mighty fine.

If you want to put timing light on9N/2N: (no view hole to flywheel) It is a little little bit more coarse due to small diameter of crank pulley vs flywheel, but for 5 inch diameter pulley, every 1/8 th inch is 2.86 degrees. Or you could skip the light & just follow FO-4 static set up.
