couple of questions on the bearings on a 8n

1.where can you get the locking caps for the connecting rod nuts locking caps
2. can the main bearings be replaced without removing the crank
 
Yes, from a automotive machine shop they are called pal nuts, or go to self locking nuts.

Yes, to roll out the main brgs use a nail head in the oil hole and rotate the crank to remove the upper half, or a skinny screwdriver.
 
I don't know if you get get the little locking nuts or not, I left them out when I rebuilt my engine a while back. It is possible to replace the mains with the crank in the block, but you have to be careful not to knick the journals when doing it.
 
I think what you are referring to are the Pal Nuts. When I rebuilt my 8N engine, I could not locate any either and did not want to reuse the old ones. My local engine shop told me they do not use them any more and advised to use a drop of Loctite on the threads which is what they said they used on the engines they rebuilt. That is what I did and so far not a problem.
