8N Bendix gear exploded

So major snow storm ( 30 miles south east of Buffalo) and went to start the 8N and got about a half a rotation ans heard a hard clunk then nothing. Pulled the starter and heard "tink tink tink" as I was wiggling it out of place. I found 1 piece of the Bendix gear but the rest are in the bottom of the flywheel well.

So after the storm I have to see if I can find a replacement locally but my question is regarding the parts of the gear that fell down. I can try to see if I can get a magnet down there but how critical is it to get all of it out?

Thinking I can pull the plugs are rotate the engine by hand to inspect the flywheel teeth?

Thoughts?

If not, they will find their own way out.

12V conversion?

It is not uncommon to find parts of broken starter drives in the bell housing when splitting Ford tractors. Often times, such parts remain inside for years without causing problems but not always, as
can be seen in the photo below.

Yes it is a conversion. I kind of thought that might be a contributor.

I found a Bendix about 40 miles away and once the roads open up I will go get it. Currently at 3 plus foot of snow and still coming down heavy.

Thanks guys!!!

JMOR, just smooth those rough edges up to avoid stress risers and you're good to go!! Put a zerk on the throwout bearing, too! :-) :-)
