8n brake seals

I have an early model 8n that I have completely rebuilt. Been using it for raking hay and running a 5' bush hog. I replaced the back seals just over 6 months ago and I went in the barn the other day and had oil leaking out both brakes. It's been sitting for a good month or so on flat even spot in the barn. Has anyone come access an aftermarket way to seal the brakes? Or am I just going to have to keep replacing seals? Just 1 set of seals per tire to clarify.

How much hydraulic fluid did you put in. I have read on here many times to only fill it to the bottom bolt hole on one of the the side inspection plates. My late model 8n has two seals.

I think most 8n's came from the factory leaking. I have replaced both sides on my '48 last year and one side is leaking again. The worst part about them leaking is that your brakes get oil on them and they don't work. My N has a 302 v8 and I really need brakes!!! Maybe some one will tell us how to keep them from leaking.

I have three 8Ns. The '51 has both an inner and outer seal and does not leak. My '48 and '49 have only the one seal. I replaced the seals and brakes on the '49 ten years ago and have never had any leaks. The brakes work just fine. I bought the '48 from a John Deere dealer and the brakes had just been replaced. The seals leak but the brakes still work (been using it this way for 6 years). When the brakes no longer work I will redo it.

My brakes leak bad enough I have to stand on both brakes to slowly get it to roll to a stop. No chance of stopping on a hill, and like I said, replaced 6-9 months ago. Had them to where I could lock them up and 180 the tractor on a dime.
