8N Carb Problem

My 8N has been sitting for about a week and now stops running about 15 seconds after I start it up. I let it sit for about a minute, it"ll start up again but then dies pretty quick. I left it sitting for about an hour and went back out to find gas dripping from the carb. I took the air hose off and drained it but the gas is still dripping out. Is the float stuck? I whacked a few times with a screwdriver handle but nothing changed. I"m hoping some cleaner will fix it. Am I on the right track? Thanks!

Ifn it's drippin fer no reason... Yes you are on the right track.

Ifn you are choking it.. Well..

Yep, DaveFF, you are right, it sounds like you are on the right track. The float is not coming up and cutting the needle valve off for some reason. Either the float is not floating or the needle valve has some trash stopping it from closing off the fuel flow. You need to cut the fuel off at the sediment bowl to stop the fuel from flowing thrru and ruining your engine by alowing the gas to go into the crankcase and contiminating the engine oil. Then remove and rebuild your carburetor.

Pull the fuel line off the carb, then remove the filter elbox.. then get a can of spray carb cleaner and stick the straw in the fuel hole as far as it will go, close your eyes and give it 2-3 good 2-3second bursts... see what that gets you.. Look in your parts manual for a diagram o fthat carb.. so yo know where you are sticking that straw.. and why it may help you out..
