After weeks of ATF soaking and other adjustments I now have 50 psi on all cylinders. Been thinking I should try to start the old 8n again. Will it run with 50 psi?

Likely it will start if you have capable help to pull start it.

Nothing like getting it running, work it a bit to warm it up, put some "run time" on it, then re-evaluate compression.

I'd say don't be in a hurry. You've taken the time to soak and break things loose. Soak more. Keep working it and see how much it improves.

Thanks guys. Previous owner said it ran 6 years ago. Can't take it apart
already snowed twice and I have no shop. Today I loosened valve clearance on 1 and 3 they were tight.
Did not recheck compression.
Am I right? the right valve for each cylinder is exhaust. Also noticed 7/16 wrench does not fit so well when valve is closed. Better buy the tool. This 8n has rotating valves and holes to hold the lifters.

Cool, with those drilled holes you don't need those Johnson tappet tools : )

BTW I did not catch you posted you had the holes... : (

Thanks Ken that info was very helpful. I didn't see any description like that in my book. I'll have a better understanding when I tear into it. I like to gather as much info as possible.
