Any help or ideas appreciated in Advance !!
Background: 1952 Ford 8N. Issue. Firing order is reversed and runs like a top. Have owned for 20 years. Distributor has not been removed or reinstalled. When firing order set to 1,2,4,3 tractor backfires, spits, you name it. Reversed firing order and fires right up. Wires from cap to plugs all correct. Any ideas on what could have caused this would be greatly appreciated. There are times that we turn big rocks into many small rocks while shredding and the tractor reacts to it the same as if you threw a hammer in a garbage disposal but quickly returns to normal rpm's and operation. Other than that, I have no idea what could have caused the firing order to reverse 180. and again any help greatly appreciated.

I have a 8N51 and I tried the reverse order firing out of curiosity! It would not start. I am assuming you are thinking correctly about normal rotation direction? CCW vs CW.
