is there a good way to determine that the under load noise from engine is wrist pin or rod bearing and if so which one? Thanks

First question, is it clicking or ticking? Sounds like a stupid question doesn't it? But when my 8N had a leaking exhaust manifold. It made a ticking noise. I could actually feel the leak by putting my finger around the fourth cylinder exhaust. I could actually feel the "puff" leak that went along with the ticking noise.

A tractor with a leaking exhaust manifold should not be driven until it is fixed because it will continue to erode metal parts including the block. A mechanics stethoscope is also a good thing to have to detect things like that.

Is your oil pressure real low. If it has a rod bearing going a lot of times oil pressure goes down. Noise from and engine can be many things valves out of adjustment, Rod bearing cam bearing broken rings etc etc

only makes the noise when under load like going up hill, has lots of power but makes clicking noise, would exhaust leak only show up under load?

Wrist pins make a double knock each revolution, inserts/rod bearings make a sharp knock and mains kinda dull knock each revolution. Caryc and Old's recommendations dead on. Stethoscope a great idea, don't know why I never got one, just grabbed a screwdriver or rubber hose to listen to things.

Disconnected each spark plug lead one at a time....then replace plug lead and do the next etc, etc, when the noise stops you have the cylinder of concern

I had the same issue as CaryC Check that manifold Its sure a lot easier and cheaper to repair
than a major engine rebuild
