8N Engine Code ID

Can anyone break down this engine code for me or provide a link to do so. Hopefully saving hours of research time. I believe this to be a replacement engine since there is no serial number on the left side of engine at the usual place. Believe my 8N to be a 52 based just on previous owner info, but without a serial it is difficult to know for sure, along with ordering specific parts based on the serial number. Number is on top of block between spark plugs. Thanks

MY interpretation... 8N6050A - the CASTING NUMBER of the cylinder head, date code... C = March, 4 = fourth day, 5 = 1955, the day the part was cast. IF correct it MUST be a replacement engine (or, at least the cylinder head.

Look for a casting date code on the engine BLOCK.

I'm sure others may have corrections to that!

Agree,
Here is H 4 2---- August 4 1952
Just behind the starter

Forgot about the other location. And, of course it is different than yours. There is a 2 after the diamond that may designate the year 1952 that previous owner advised. Just wish there was a serial number. Photo is what is behind starter. Thanks!

Thanks for info, put picture of engine casting in other reply.

That code is not what I was expecting--- should have a letter, then day number, then a year number.
The "2 " way at the bottom is present on this late 51 8n-C, so may not be a year code
8n-C was the last letter designation before NAA.
Ford didnt use the letter "I" for September, but skipped to "J". So "M" is the 13th letter but was used for December.

I have had this 8N a few years now. Have photos on my page showing my splitting it in half, putting in a new flywheel, clutch, etc. Think I remember something before indicating it may be late 51 as far as engine date. If like cars would still be a 52 release year. Putting a new radiator and water pump on it now. Have hood off and got me wondering again since it doesn’t have a serial number what is the story here with engine and tractor itself. I have 3 Kubota’s and this is just a history tractor to me that works well and I enjoy. Use it to disk food plot and have an old model Covington TP46 seed spreader and works fine for that. Thanks for info, appreciate it!

Thanks for the link. Can definitely narrow down the tractor serial number batch based on tractor characteristics with info provided. Obviously 50-52 model based just on side mount distributor. Will keep narrowing it down and work on the engine as well. Got link saved this time! Thanks!
