8n Engine Rebuild Continued

As I have posted previously, I am rebuilding a 1950 8n engine. On a budget so am attempting to do most of the work myself. All the information that I have received so far has been a tremendous help. I now need to remove the valves and decide what to do with them. Are there any tips on removing the valve springs and retainers? Can I reseat or replace the valves myself or does this need to go to a machine shop? F0-4 Manual shows a special tool which I don't have. Any help will be appreciated.

Most valves really need to be reworked by a shop with the right grinding tools. If there is any pitting at all you will not get it out by hand lapping. I rebuilt an 8n engine last winter and had a shop do the valve work. Had to have the shop replace all the exhaust valve seats. It was money well spent in my opinion.
To remove the valves, go in thru the manifld ports and pry down on the guide and then remove the guide keeper. I made a tool with a small hook on the end that worked real good. on some of them a large screw driver worked. play with it. You will get them out.

Roadman, Send me an email and I'll give you a link to a good tutorial on rebuilding an N engine by JohnTR.

Maybe I got it now. First time to post in modern view. Will get better. Tried to send an e-mail under private messaging. Got a prompt that said private messaging is under construction. Will try again
