My 1949 8N does not have a fan shroud. Is this normal? Did all N series come from the factory with a shroud?

Thanks.

A fan shroud was standard on most if not all 8N machines. Keeping them from contacting the fan has been a common problem and many were removed due to the nusiance.

Just like the plug wire conduit and battery box cover, shrouds were discarded the first time they needed to come off the tractor. And, as long as the tractor is
moving, a shroud isn't really needed. But it is needed when the tractor isn't moving, like cutting wood w/ a buzz saw, etc. The purpose of the shroud is to direct
air over the radiator fins. Nice when the tractor is moving, essential when it's not.

Good morning, dkkj and all: I thought my 9N needed a fan shroud, so I bought a replacement item from an independent tractor shop. It was a lot of work, but I got it installed ok. There were indents for screw holes in the edge of radiator frame, I found out later the holes were marked because the radiator was/is intended for an 8N. so I had bought an 8N radiator some years ago, and now I have an 8N fan shroud on it also! Sort of accidental upgrades. Oh, well. As wife says, the tractor hobby keeps me off the streets and out of the bars.
