When having new starter ring gear installed we found
my flywheel has a groove for the ring to set in. The new ring is too large and just spins. Old ring was very tight and had to be cut off. What could cause this and does this mean my flywheel is no good? Was told there never was a groove in flywheel for starter ring. Is it possible that starter ring wore it down and could stay tight? New ring would work if there were no groove.

the grove is there to kleep the gear from working it's way off they sold you the wrong gear. take it back and charge them for the extra labor

Don't forget to tell them the new ring gear must be heated HOT (the posslq's oven will work) to expand it before dropping it in place on the flywheel.

Starter ring came from yesterdays tractors. They told me there was no groove and they only have 1 part # for this item that states it will fit yrs from 39 to 64. Will call them back today.
