8n ford firing issues

ok i recently got a ord 8n and i rode it around yesterday fired right up quick to and today i went to start her and only the plug closest to dash is firing:/ any ideas

12v front mount and how could plug wires play a role if it ran excellent yesterday I mean I just turned oligarchy off and went to start it today

Did you turn off the gas yesterday when you shut down the tractor. It is a gravity feed setup and if your float needle leaks as many do, the engine will flood from excess gas in the intake. That is assuming the intake is sealed well.

Might be just gas fouled plugs.

If you left the gas on, check for flooded carb by loosening the tube between carb and engine, just enough to let any gas flow out.

From there, if you want an extra set of plugs, a good idea, for events just like this, get em and install em. Then, One by One as you have time change to the old plugs. Folks around here like Autolite. I have Champion. Don't mix brands or heat ranges.

welp just earlier i went out went to turn on gas i was off thank god and the float doesnt leak about to weeks ago i placed my carb in chem dip placed the float under my main body to hold her under let it soak over night went out pulled main body out and the float popped right up so no holes in float (also put new autolites in it and i got it firing on all cylenders now but it will only hit on choke: i am new to this i work on lawnmower i am 15 i am believeing to think that i am running short of fuel it has the metal gas line

Pulling out the choke gives you a richer mixture. So, you could have either a fuel or spark problem.

A carb out of adjustment will also cause this problem; set the main jet at 1-1/2 turns out & leave it alone.

A dirty carb can cause the problem as well; start by cleaning the fuel screens.

Dirty/old gas, or water in the gas can cause this problem.

Restricted fuel flow can cause this problem; remove the bolt at the bottom of the carb & check for flow.

On my 1950 frontmount, needing choke to run is the first sign that the points need adjusting/replacing.

Old plug wires can cause the same problem.

A vacuum leak can do the same thing. Get a hand propane torch and carefully spray it (unlit of course) around the intake manifold at the carb to manifold interface & the manifold to block gasket of the tractor while it is running. Or, you can use carb cleaner or WD40. If it speeds up, you found the leak. Sometimes (rarely) manifolds crack or get rust holes.

Lastly, when all else fails, you could have an air leak around the carb metering section. The likely suspects are leaky throttle shaft seals and/or a worn throttle shaft. Or, just a real dirty carb w/ clogged passages.

Bottom line: Probably 75% of "needs choke to run" problems are fuel related, but do not rule out ignition problems. Just check the likely fuel problems first.
