8N Ford Front Mount Distributor

(quoted from post at 09:38:23 11/04/10) What year or years did they use the front mount distributor? Thanks, Rob.
939 through part of 1950 (last front SN 263843 & first side SN 263844).

With the industrial motors included thats about 600,000 front mount motors .

If your talking just the distributor then you would have to add in replacement and after market units .

That's a lot of distributors .

As JMOR said. ALL 9N and 2Ns had them and about mid way through the production of the 8N they switched from the front mount to the side mount. So if you ever find a 9N or 2N with a side mount distributor then you have one with a newer 8N engine in it. I have a friend that has the 9N rear end and steering but has a newer 8N with side mount engine

Rob, I hope you don't mind me joining the thread. Can the front mount distributor be swapped for a side mount? Thanks
Mike

ure, but it isn't any Saturday morning 4 bolt job. Without going into all the details, I'll toss out the larger deal breakers. Different cam shaft, fab a new generator mounting location, etc., etc.....
Oil filler & filter locations are obstacles to be overcome.
But it has been done. All things (except life/death) can be overcome with enough time & money.

JMOR,thank you for the information. The more I think about it the more I like the distributor crammed in there where it is. LOL
