8N fuel shutoff

Hey everybody, I have a 46 8N and the fuel shutoff screw is worn down where the packing contacts it. Thousands of off/on cycles have worn it down a little. The problem is if I ever twist it out to the reserve position, the screw gets hard to turn (because it is surrounded by the packing nut) and the original size of the screw is now contacting the packing, not the worn part of the screw, which is smaller. So when I fill the tractor back up with gas and turn the fuel screw back in to the normal position the screw is now very easy to turn because it compacted the packing just a little bit. So when I go to shut the gas off completely as I do every time I park the tractor, fuel now will drip very slowly past the packing on the fuel screw. This happens even though the fuel screw is turned all the way in to the off position. It is just the way these are designed that the packing holds the gas back even though fuel is shutoff, don't ask me why it's designed this way but it is. I can turn the packing nut in just a little and it will stop, but if I ever have to use reserve again then problem returns because unworn part of fuel screw will expand packing again. I could buy a new fuel/bowl assembly but I have heard they are poor quality. Does anyone know if the fuel screw from a new bowl assembly will fit my old OEM assembly? I have thought of chucking the screw up in a drill and sanding the unworn part down but I could easily bend the screw also. Anyone have any ideas? Or is the replacement fuel shutoff/sediment bowl assembly good enough to work reliably?

I have put the 8 N valves in several different tractors over the years just to add the reserve to them. The only problem I have had is where they screw into the tank, tape and a good dollop of Gasoil and they have been fine
