8N Gas Tank - Second Time Around

Frank -SE PA

New User
Ten years ago I cleaned and sealed the gas tank and it has worked fine until now. The seal coat is starting to strip off in some places in small strips like sea weed.

Anyone have experience with this and a good way to handle it at this point?

Thanks.

Yep.

Buy a new tank. You got 10 extra years out of the original.

I think Bruce might be right about the New Gas Tank. If the stuff you used to seal it is like a rubberized coating, I doubt you can get it all out yourself. If you have a radiator repair shop near you, they might be able to boil it out for you. Some Rad shops also repair gas tanks. I guess you would have to weight the cost versus a new tank.

Last winter I checked at our local radiator shop and the price to clean and line a gas tank was more than a new one.

might be this new ethanol gas.

the tank on my allis g is lined.. and the new gas is disolving it.. making it into a thick sludge.. i added a fuel filter to my line just out of the tank to keep it from fouling the line to the carb.. them tsv's are a bit rare and spendy and I don't want to open it up mor ethan needed.
