8N Governor Body

And down the rabbit hole we go. Decided to freshen up the engine on an 8N I bought last year. It ran and operated fine but has low oil pressure when hot which seems to be common. While waiting for the machine shop I'm fiddling with other stuff. I disassembled the governor which seems to be in good condition and was working OK although it looked like the washer/shim retaining clip was off. I am going to replace the balls but there is a groove in the body (I assume) where the balls ran on it.

If all else is good, clean and adjusted how critical is it that I replace the body? Can I lightly polish the groove, put in smooth round balls and let it work?
I've already conceded that I'll spend more on parts and repairs than I paid for the tractor but I'd like to save where I can.

I hope you paid attention when you removed the two bolts that hold it on. One is longer than the other, and unless you want to replace the timing gear, don't mix them up. Sorry to say, I don't remember which one goes where, I just looked at them when I resealed my housing and that was a while back and I have forgotten. I'm sure many others here know.

The groove in the housing was caused by the clip and washer coming off the shaft. When set up properly the balls do not touch the housing. If the groove hasn't worn through enough to cause a leak there is no need to replace it. In regards to the bolts mentioned the short one goes in the top.
