8n has gotten sick

Last night I took the 49 8n out for a evening drive and just a few minutes after starting it up and heading out through the field she started running really rough, just like you had the choke almost all the way out or a plug wire off. I got it back to the shed, after sitting over night I tried it again today and still runs bad, I took the carb apart, everything looks good in there, I have a good fuel flow, all 4 plugs have spark, i'm not sure what it is, the tractor will run about a minute and then die but starts right back up again. I did notice some smoke coming out the tailpipe. Any ideas what to check?

Good spark, or weak spark?
If it's weak/yellowish, I would suspect points.
Specially if they have not been cleaned/serviced recently.
If you have good spark, when did you last check/service the air cleaner?
If that gets plugged it essentially chokes the tractor.
You can test for that by just unhooking the hose for a little bit.

What type pf spark do you have?? Blue/white and jump a 1/4 inch gap or more?? When was the last time you changed the oil and dirt in the air cleaner???

It had a good blue spark, I put new oil in the oil bath a couple weeks ago but I"ll check it again

Always check your spark First!
Verify that you have a bright bluish white spark that will jump at least 1/4".
Short or yellowish spark will not do.
Requires no tools to pull a plug wire and check.
Only then go on to possible fuel problems.

I would pull the dist and check the gap and the condition of the points. If in doubt replace 'em.

when and if you rule out spark.. check fuel flow duration.. might have a blockage..

All good points here, you said smoke as if this is something new? Is it white,blue or black? If its white water,blue oil. black,carbon fuel mixture, that would support possible air cleaner dirty as old said. The smoke color and oder may tell us everything.
