8n has no spark

I habe a front mount 8n not sure on year but i have new coil as old one was shot amd poimts as those where shlt to amd i got new spark wires and sparkies but no spark did voltage tests and im getting the voltage i need and made sure there no shorts got none it ran fine last month and now no spark.

Do a bit of trouble shooting. Take a piece of wire and run it from the non ground side of the battery to the coil. Touch the wire there and then take it off again. If the points are closed you should get a small spark. If you get a spark hook the wire to the coil and try to start it. If it starts the problem is from the coil back to the battery. If you don't have a spark you have a problem with the points or other such thing from the coil into the distributor. Now days many of the new point you get have a coating on them that need to be removed before they will work. Also did you set the new points to 0.015 which is the correct gap for the front mount distributor

New points often have a coating that must be removed before they conduct correctly. A fine abrasive paper, followed by a folded dollar bill to wipe away any abrasive works wonders. If the new parts are installed correctly, and have the proper gap, cleaning is most likely the answer. Jim

old.. There you go again wanting another guy to burn his fingers poking around in his distributor with a hot wire. See if you ignored me ???
chube11, use a test light!!
On those front mounts it’s tricky. Points open power should show on the moving points breaker arm. Points closed no power.

You say the points work have you done a spark test at all 4 plug wires?? Do you have a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more at all 4 plug wires

Try these steps and report results for each step.. I will add that, while cranking as in step #!, you should see voltage or flashing lamp alternate between the points open and points closed voltages.

I recommend cleaning the oxidation protection off point contacts with paper business card . Maybe already mentioned

I'm coming along on my repair of an 8n front mount dist. As I read most of these threads trying to soak up some knowledge I was wondering if the points and condenser is such a hassle for us inexperienced is there a reason why you don't recommend electronic ignition? I've got my valves completed (I hope) and getting ready to see if this engine wants to go to work again I thought I'd ask what you gentlemen thought. Thank you for your input
