8N head bolt or studs/nut

(quoted from post at 13:57:27 02/25/16) need information on 8 N head bolts. What grade of bolt will it need. Or would it be better to stay with studs.

Personal preference but removing the old studs can be a challenge. Grade 5 is adequate, grade 8 preferred.

Arlo........would it surprize you to learn you kant buy new studs from Ford Tractor? They only sell BOLTS. Grade #5 is plenty adequate. Altho iff'n yer sphincterly challenged, go fer #8.......HTH, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

I just bought a set of studs from this site and they worked just fine.
Stay with the studs. I used a 1/2" drive stud puller after they soaked
in penetrant a few days. On block holes that go into water jackets,
use a non hardening thread sealer. Install studs dry on non jacket
holes.

one thing about bolts versus studs - i just pulled my head, and it was a royal pain, because it didn't want to come up off the studs.

with bolts, that's a non-issue. no need to pry it up when u can just knock it sideways.

ps: since i did it before i heard about this, i replaced the studs with... new studs.

all i can say is, i better not have to pull that head again :x
