I have a 1948 8N. The hood on this tractor does not have the raised Ford lettering on it. Could this be the correct hood, or did all of the 8N's have the raised Ford on them. What about the fenders?

As far as I know, all 8N's had the script in the hood. The top part of the hoods from a 9N/2N should interchange with an 8N, the only main differences being the top two holes in the back are spaced differently and the 8N has the air vent out the right rear side. The 9N/2N did not have the script in the front sides, while 8N did. There is also a different shape in the front center where the FORD emblem is located. Don't remember if there is a difference where the top pins of the grill fit into.

As for the script fenders, they were put into production sometime in the 1950 model year. I believe the serial number was 273178.
