Okay, used the search function and I've read about the allthread and coupler nut repair.

My question is, on the female part, how much of it is threaded inside? How much do I need to cut off to get the shaft out?

I don't know if the female piece is threaded 1" or 3" long?

And what diameter rod have you used for the repair?

I am assuming that your problem is that the threads in the fork are seized to the shaft, rather than the gears in the box rusted solid.

Before you cut the thing apart, do you have access to a torch to heat the fork with? Often, heat will expand the threaded part of the fork enough to get it unscrewed.

You can get more torque on it by removing the parts from the tractor and holding the shaft (male) in a vise and applying the torque with a bar through the holes (not the legs of the fork) in the end of the fork. If you try to turn the fork using something through the legs of the fork, you will just spread the legs apart.

A propane torch may work, but oxy-acetelyne is best. Using propane, heat it as fast and as much as the torch can. A small, hand-held can won't put out enough heat for this - you need at least a "weed burner" unit. Using OA, heat the threaded area of the fork at least dull red. If it doesn't unscrew while hot, let it cool completely and apply lots of your favorite penetrating oil (Kroil, ATF, PB Blaster, etc.) and soak it for at least a day before trying to unscrew it. Keep applying penetrant for several days if unsuccessful. Repeat the heat if you can't get it off after a few days.

No OA torch, but I do have a good sized weed burner.

The problem is the threads. The gear head works fine.

I'll give it another try.

If I can get it apart I'll just clean it up and ise it.

I was using a bar through the holes in the fork, and the torque bent it up and mis-aligned the holes in the fork.

Got it unscrewed a little, but completely messed up the fork in the process.
