8N lift noise

Recently rebuilt hydraulic lift. [new cylinder, naa piston, etc.]
1. With use had “chatter”, [noise and movement]
2. Raised and lowered ok and stayed up 48 hours.
3. Used half a day with light weight scarper and now with medium weight disc have a knocking sound, one knock per pto shaft revolution. Pump?
4. Now must pull lift lever to top to raise 3pt.
5. No chatter or knock before rebuild but tractor has been setting for a year.
6. Oil level between marks on dipstick. Stick says to fill with cylinders extended [lift arms?]. Will fill to bottom bolt hole tomorrow.
7. No wobble at end of pto shaft. No leaking.
8. I have the original pump for this tractor that was exchanged because lift would not stay up.

When installing lift cover had to pull lift control arm about 3/16 inch to right side to guide it into the intake control valve.

Thanks, Foster

Chatter is common--My Dad's has sounded like someone in there with a ball peen hammer for years----wear in pump parts----run it............

One of the lifts we rebuilt we got a defective piston...leading to chatter when raising..put another new piston in no more chatter. I posted about it some months back.

It probably didn't knock before you resealed the cyl, because it leaked oil as fast as it made it, now with a nice seal, the pump is seeing a load like it hasn't in a while. The knock Is wear. The mire wear, more knock.. They can knock for decades, depends on use. Cost to rebuild now or when ot stops knocking is about the same. If it lifted and didn't sound like it was coming apart, for a hobby tractor I'd let it knock. If it was my daily use tractor needed to eat, etc I guess fix it when you can, or better yet upgrade to a model from 55-75. The lift lever issue vs height? Did you replace the cam pin and readjust the linkages when you had the cover off?

Thanks for the replies. Changed cam pin. Will pull side plate and check for oil leaking. Will adjust hydraulic touch control lever. Will replace safety valve if leaking. If those fail will pull cover and readjust. I guess rebuild pump would be next.

The pump won't have anything to do with how far it lifts with the handle. That's all linkages and adjustment.

Lift quad isn't loose is it?
