8N low compression

I am working on an 8N that has a multitude of compression. #4 is at 90 psi, 3 is at 75, 2 is at 50 and 1 is at 40 pounds. The tractor runs excellent if you pull it or jump it but will not start on 6 volts without help. I can take the oil filler cap off and at full throttle there is no blowby. The tractor was overhauled not to many years ago and I suspect the valves were never set right. I have the manifold and carb off to get to the valves but how do you adjust the valves on these without the two special wrenches the manual says are required? The tractor didn't come with these fancy wrenches but I have to find someway to get things set correctly. Thanks for any help.

You can buy the fancy wrenches and they are not too ridiculous in price either. Let me know if you figure out a way to adjust them, I'm just about to purchase them so I can adjust mine. I just did a complete overhaul on the tractor and that is one of the things I must do yet.

I found the following info helpful when adjusting the valves on mine.

Even though the pix shows the manifold removed, you can leave it in place but you will need to take off the carburetor & air tube.
