8n lower link support pin slipping

Got a thought and looking to see what some other input is. When plowing today the nut came off and and so did the arm. The threads got lucky and can be saved and nothing bent. Easy enough I figure as it only costing me a few minutes. As usual I'm wrong. Found a nut and now the pin is slipping so I can't tighten up. I want to fix it right but really don't have time to send it to the shop for another couple weeks. This is where my other thought comes into play. What I want to do is drill the nut so it can slip on and then weld the end. I know I'll be looking at a cheap way of getting by and will have leaks but do yall think it can get me by for say 15 hours of work. Thanks so much in advance. Cliff

Not a good idea, 31.

If the arm attachment bolt is not tight in the axle trumpet it will not only leak but also wear the axle trumpet requiring replacement of both bolt and trumpet.

Removal of the trumpet so as to tighten the bolt properly is not a 15 hour job.

Thanks for the quick response Dean. You only told me what I already knew but was hoping that like 30 people would jump up and say do it and it will be fine. You know how it is when you have the itch to get something done but the law of murphy has to be applied. Thanks again and I'll just suck it up for a couple weeks til it's done right. Cliff

Cliff:

You need not completely remove the trumpet to tighten the stud.

I support it from both above and below, remove the wheel and tire and simply unbolt the trumpet and move it away from the differential case enough to make the meeded repair. Of course you must drain the oil.

I slit the new gasket at the top where it will not leak so that I can install it without removing the axle.

With proper tools and support means you should be able to do it in a couple of hours if the pin and trumpet are not damaged.
