8N Melt-Down

The hot wire to my points ('52 8N, side distributor) got against a plug base and the insulation melted, causing a dead short. (Can you say 'Smoke Test'?) No major harm done, just had to replace a couple of feet of wire once I found the short. Guess I was lucky I didn't have a fire. This got me to thinking that I really should have a fuse (or fuses) somewhere in the circuit(s). I assume that Henry had fuses in the original design, but any such safeguards are long gone on mine. Just wondering what everybody does for fuse protection on these things. I do see a holder for a glass barrel-type fuse mounted down near the battery, but both leads are clipped on it.

Typically, except in the very modern era, ignition circuits are NOT fused.

If it bothers you, you cold add a short length of 18 or 20 GA fusible-link wire at the ignition switch end.

fusabile wire is defintely a plus when you want a clean look (no fuse blocks). make sure the amperage is compatible with the circuit draw.

ditto what bob said.. if you want to add in a fuse, just pop one in.. keep in mind you are fusing fro wireing size, and typical ignition dar won't be over 5a.
