8n no spark/missing connection?

Square coil- There seems to be a connection missing on my tractor. What kind of connection goes from the condensor screw to the points? It looks like something was once there and is missing, and I am not getting any spark.

jdBrammmer.......don't haffa pitchur to show you (do a search of the archives at the top of this great N-Board) but there is thin coppers strip that connects the hollow headed insulated condenser screw. The squarecan coil springy-thingy also sticks into the top of hollow headed screw.

There are many reasons you're not gittin' enny sparkies. Start with the INSULATED washer underneath the hollowheaded condenser screw. Surprizingly enuff, you do NOT need a condenser to make sparkies ...but... without a condenser you will quickly pitt and burn yer points. and guess what??? NO sparkies.

Remember, yer frontmount points are set to 0.015" gap.
You do know ittza 2-bolt, 15-min job to remove yer weird frontmount dizzy and change the points (0.015") on the kitchen table, don't you??? Just un-snapple yer capple and letter dangle. Installation is a reversal of the removal ...except... gently start yer 2-bolt and then install yer rotor. Now rotate yer rotor until the dizzy OFF-SET tang will fit into the OFF-SET camshaft slot. Then tighten yer 2-bolts. Then re-snapple yer capple. Simple, eh?

Surprizingly enuff, neither the points or condenser care about 12V or positive or negative ground. They are good for about 200-volts. Howsomevers; yer squarecan coil does care 6-or-12V. Can you guess why??? .......respectfully, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Don't feel bad about asking. I have not seen any diagrams or pictures showing a clear illustration of the copper jumper strap.

If I had not taken the points off, I would not know about the copper strap, as it is not in any of my manuals - FO-4, Service Manual, or Operators manual I have.

It is not even clearly shown in the parts manual I downloaded from nnalert. No parts listing I could find, nor is a replacement included in a tune-up kit, nor one listed on any of the parts suppliers, including this one. Please point me in the right page if I am wrong.

With all that said, the afore mentioned manuals were probably written for users who already knew a jumper strap was required.

I solved my broken jumper strap problem by breaking off the copper strap from the points being replaced and using it as a replacement. Copper being mallable and easy to punch a hole in, it worked out fine.

Good Luck
