8n overhauled

1949 8n we just overhauled the engine...when i put the starter on before we bolted engine to bell housing i noticed the starter bendix teeth were engaged to the ring gear...when we started the engine i heard a clicking sound-it sounded to me like the ratcheting thing on the bendix...

Yea, the bendix was extended. It will retract when the engine starts.

While the starter was off of the engine I bet someone messed with the bendix and it was extended..As a result, it was engaging the ring gear when you installed it on the tractor..That is not a problem. Once cranked the bendix was disengaged and should function normally now.
