I'm trying to get my 49 8n running and having trouble, it sat for about a year and i'm getting good spark and gas to the carb but it is not getting gas up to the plugs, it will start and run a few seconds on ether but won't start on its own, the plugs are dry and i've even hand choked it, what now???

I had a similar problem a few months ago. A good overnight carb soaking and rebuild cured my problem.

Not sure if yours is the same as my 9n, but I was amazed mine ran when I took the oil bath air cleaner apart. The was so much sediment in the cup where the oil goes that it had to have been choked off. 3/4 of the cup was sediment. Probably hadn"t been changed or looked at in decades.

One that sat that long stands a good chance of having stuck rings which will cause low compression which will cause your problem. Put about a 1/4 cup of ATF in the cylinders and let ti sit 24 hours. Put the plug back in so as to keep dirt etc out. Pull the plugs back out and spin it over to clear the cylinder install the plugs and try it.
