8n pto is stuck wont go in gear took side cover off shifter works but shift rail wont move in the pto assembly put a pry bar on it its stuck moves just a 1/4 inch or so thanks cdv

The PTO engagement assembly is a simple sliding collar housed in the rear PTO support bolted to the back of the transmission. It slides on the front of the PTO shaft the PTO shaft is splined.

The shift rail is stuck which I doubt its just a sliding shaft that has a dentent and spring... The more common issue would be the shift collar will not slide on a twisted PTO shaft.

I would remove the PTO shaft the hydraulic pump also uses those splines to turn the pump... Pray the PTO shaft will pull thru the hydraulic pump.... Then you can determin if the issue is the PTO support shifter are the PTO shaft...Once out drop the hydraulic pump you then can remove the PTO support from the rear of the transmission from below the tractor working from where the hydraulic pump cavity...

Its not a bad job jack the rear of the tractor up are pull the rear wheels up on car ramps and block the tractor wheels...
