I'm replacing the pto bearing, sleeve, and seal on my 8N. The shaft is machined so that all of these can be pressed on the shaft a half inch farther than it originally was. The spline extended 1 1/8 inch beyond the housing before disassembly. I've had troble with yokes hitting the housing and would like to extend the spline 1 3/8 or maybe a little more beyond the housing. How much room do I have to spare in the coupling? thanks

Kevin.......with all yer "issues", I would byte the bullet and gitta NEW 1-3/8" PTO shaft. ($100, cheap) Comes complete with new bearings and seals. Just 4-bolts and 15-mins and yer done. Park yer tractor nose down in ditch and you won't haffta drain 5-gals of hydro-tranny oil. Simple, eh? ........Dell

Kevin, I'm with Dell, change it out for the newer 1 3/8 type shaft. You will be much better off in the long run. I assume at this time though you have it already apart. You can move the position of the shaft some just make sure to check clearances and that nothing rubs.

Thanks for the response Guys. I have one I did the shaft swap on and I can't use all the old implements with it because after putting on the reducer the added length puts too sharp angles at the u-joints. I also got a belt pulley extension and tried using it but that also puts the pulley in the wrong place. So converting the implements would be $$, that is why I'm repairing the 1 1/8 bearings.
