8N rear hub removal.

I have two loose studs on my rear hub. I am replacing tube, tire and rim. I ve got an 8" gear puller on it and have used the hat from old rim loosely bolted to jerk on hub. Anyone had any experience with pneumatic hub puller or the "sliding" hub puller?

ost all say loosen big nut and drive around in figure 8.

Since you have it apart already it's past the point of driving around until it loosens. I use a hub puller designed so you can hit it with a hammer to tighten and pull the hub.

This is the puller I have and never fails to pull hubs. Designed back in the day when rear axles had tapered keyed hubs on Jeeps, Chryslers and others like tractors.

I feel certain the Dad didn't pay $149 for the one I have back in 1950 or earlier that would have been a lot of hour salary!

Thats a nice tool I have two of'em, one is fudged up from trying to get a N hub off : (... They have their limit and a N hub found it.

Put one of these cheeep chinee replacement hubs on it next and it will take itself off! :twisted:

Thanks for replies. Since tires were already off both sides and being replaced I couldn t drive in 8 s with loosened nut. That s why I tried using the "hat" and banging it back and forth. Will look for a different puller (hopefully borrow or rent and not $150)

brake kleen, krazy glue and a big hose clamp. good as new!

That's nice, I will probably be replacing axles and hubs on the '49 soon. That broken hub was ALMOST right though, don't that count for something? I hope that's a 1 out of 10,000 and not a 8 out of 10, either
way I will get ONE bad one.
