8n rear wheel loose

I have a 52 8n that had a 13.4x28 tire on one side with a 11.2x28 on the other. I replaced the 13.4x28 and put a 11.2x28 to match both tires. I noticed the wheel "wiggles" compared to the other side with the lug nuts tight....are there shims behind the axle nut? I realize tire size would not effect wiggle unless it wore something out by having mismatched tires on the rear. I"ve never noticed it before but never tried to wiggle the tire...The axle nut appears tight although I dont have a socket to fit it for removal/tightening. Any thoughts? Wheel bearing?

Thanks!

" I dont have a socket to fit it for removal/tightening"

You're going to need one.

First, to tighten that nut to 400 lbs of torque.

And, if that doesn't work, you will need it to pull the hub off & replace it. And, if your luck is anything like mine, the axle as well.

The picture is what a worn hub looks like; the axle splines show.

Ditto what Bruce said, you are most likely looking at least at worn hub and it axle, hub is soft vast, axle is hard, band aid fix to get thru emergency work is to shim splines with palate strapping steel and tighten and keep an eye on it, real fix is new hub and or axle if needed, do brakes and seals if they are questionable, deffinately do seals if you do the axle

I could be totally off base here but . . .

Maybe you have a bent rim. . .
but that would be a "wobble" not a "wiggle". :D

If you think maybe . . . then swap tires from one side to the other and see.

Any signs of damage on the rim?

Sorry but I was thinking that you meant that the wheel was out of plane when revolving, but you probably just mean free play
like when you grab a front wheel top and bottom to measure by the freeplay "wiggle" how worn a kingpin is.

But if you did mean that it wobbles while rotating -- like the bent flywheel on one of my compressors -- then that's another story.
