8N Serial number question?

I just wrote the serial number down from my 8N so if i needed parts and i would have the serial number.The question I have is, there is a star at each end of the serial number,does that mean anything or were all the serial number stamped that way? I know this is a stupid question but i was curious.

All had the stars up to s/n 433,578. Then they went to diamonds. The difference is that the star meant the thinner steel sleeves & the diamond means .090" thick cast iron sleeves. Nice info to have at rebuild time. Other than that, what is usually needed for ordering most parts is model (9N, 2N, 8N) 6v or 12v, front or side distributor.
