8N sherman

I'm looking at a ford 8N.I think it has a sherman transmission.Is this better than than the other?

The Sherman is an auxiliary transmission giving 2 or three extra ranges in each gear of the main transmission.

Several other mfg's offered similar transmissions, as well.

Bob don't you mean giving it one or 2 extra ranges?? If it is the step up or step down then you have the extra range of the step and the normal gears and if a combo you have 2 extra ranges and the normal gears????

A Sherman does not make 1 n ford better than another. If you look at the n ford part of this you will see all the non starting, non stopping problems people have with them. I started running n fords in 1961. Back then they had the same starting and stopping problems they have today. If I were you I would look for a late 2000 or 3000 ford. They are a far better tractor than the n series.

The sherman trans is in addition to the main trans so yes better, will also add more value to the tractor. here is some data on the sherman combo.
