8N Side-mount Distributor Oiler

Putting my '51 8N back together, and I'm pretty sure my oiler is either broken, or the wrong part for my distributor. I've attached some pictures, can anyone offer any input? The little ball in the center will depress a little bit, but I don't know how you would get oil in to it. Also, there was no wick inside. The distributor has been mounted with the oiler pointing toward the block, so it hasn't been oiled/used for years, as I didn't know it was there. It hasn't seemed to bother the ignition at all.

Jmor is correct, the one you have wasn't there from factory. But, the little ball is spring loaded to try and keep dirt out. If you put the tip of an oiler on it and press the ball when oiling it will get some oil in there. Looks like a solution to a problem with limited options at the time. Maybe a home rebuild of the distributor at one time. They also put the oiler mounted at the back as to help keep oil flowing towards the bushing. My 8n was like that.
