8N Side Mount Distributor

Hey folks!
Seems I'm missing the snap ring and rotor clip (springy thing?) that the rotor sits on underneath the distributor cap. I see this site sells the clip but no snap ring to be found.
Does anyone know what size snap ring?
Can I get both pieces at a New Holland dealer?
I didn't make it there before closing time today.
I'd like to fix it properly cause I break rotors way too often.

Thanks in advance

IIRC, the snap ring (p/n 12177) keeps the clip in place when you remove the rotor. I've been missing the snap ring for so long I just carefully & slowly remove the rotor so I won't lose the clip.

Plan on paying 3x as much at CNH.

If you are breaking rotors, it's not because you're missing the snap ring. Bad rotor, loose installation, loose shaft or the clip upside down will cause that.

Hmm
I always made sure that the clip was positioned correctly, and it has happened a few times. Each time busting the rotor in a few pieces. I push down fairly forceful. I'm almost certain that they have always given me the correct one.

Could it be that if the cap isn't on perfectly that it messes up the rotor?

As Bruce said, be sure you are not installing clip upside down.....at least one parts drawing shows it wrong. It belongs as in this photo. The wire ring clip is to keep the advance mechanism in place on the shaft & as Bruce said, you can likely live without it.

It was installed just like the picture, no I don't have the dust cap. Haven't had one since I've owned the tractor

It wasn't until S/N 8N-403489 that dust covers were installed at factory. Older 8N's could be retrofitted.

I was able to temporarily shim it up with success!
The dealer is closed till Monday so the proper fix will have to wait till then. Thanks for the inpit guys.

If your NH dealer is like the one close to me ( a 70 mile drive) they won't have any parts on hand for an 8n. They don't even like
talking about old Ford tractors.
