8n Steering box

I've got a 48' 8n with steering box issues. I've already tried the rebuild/repair route but something in the steering box gave way the other day so I'm back to square one. Replacement ones from this website are around $800 which is more than the tractor is worth.
I've found a parts tractor for sale that is a 51' and I'm wondering if the steering boxes are compatible.
I originally posted this in another forum and it was suggested that I post it here.
On the other forum I was told that they were indeed compatible and that I would either have to get a new dash or simply notch the old one in the bottom corner. I will be driving a good ways to get this so if anyone else can chime in with confirmation that they are compatible, I'd really appreciate it.

Yes, the 51 will work and I think that you will have to make a notch in the corner but I can not remember if it was only one side or both. The newer 8N, 50 and 51 steering boxes are much better than the early 8N's.

Yes I have made the swap and used the original dash with modifications. It would be a easier swap with a 50 1/2 up dash support. The pitman arms for the late box are mandatory. This is a nice upgrade enjoy it.

John Smith had a write up on it this may be in this link.
